Nova Tech's Human-Machine Interface is Making Key Information Available

CBM represents numerous companies that produce state-of-the-art equipment, and one of the best is NovaTech.  Among other equipment, NovaTech produces remote Terminal Units (RTUs) for electric utilities.  The RTUs collect critical information from power plants, substations, and key customer locations.  This information is then shared with the operations center, allowing dispatchers to respond to issues and control breakers and other devices to ensure electricity is delivered reliably to their customers.  One aspect of NovaTech’s design is the option to add a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) to the RTU.  The HMI allows local technicians and other first responders to see all key information in one location within the substation.  This provides a quicker response than the traditional approach that requires the technicians to gather this information in various remote locations.

NovaTech recently installed a new RTU that included the HMI option at a local utility.  While the HMI is very user-friendly and intuitive, NovaTech’s approach is to provide on-site training to first responders.  This training allows those new to the HMI concept to ask questions and become comfortable with the equipment.  The response from those trained was very positive, and they relayed the frustrations they had experienced in the past and how they see the HMI helping them do their jobs better.
